Understanding Kanha Forest and Wildlife

A varied habitat

Kanha’s landscape includes sal and mixed deciduous forest, grassy meadows, bamboo and seasonal water sources. These habitats support a diverse community of mammals, birds and smaller wildlife.

Conservation history

Kanha National Park was established in 1955 and the wider landscape became part of Project Tiger in 1973. Conservation continues through habitat protection, monitoring, enforcement and community participation.

Travel responsibly

Follow park instructions, keep noise low, do not litter and never ask a driver to approach wildlife off-route. A sighting is a privilege, not a guarantee.
